This edition of FO Friday is dedicated to one of the comfiest pieces of knitwear I own: Blanket!Shrug.
There are a ton of patterns for stockinette stitch shrugs put out by Lion Brand Yarn, all in varying weights: aran (there are like 4-5 aran ones!), bulky, sport, dk, and even for crochet. There’s a theme though, you cast on one edge and knit to the other, then seam up the sides. As someone who is perfectly capable of knitting in the round, this was unacceptable. Time to mod mod mod!
Basically I used all of Lion Brands patterns as a base, and did my own thing.
I used Judy’s Magic Cast On for 150 stitches on each needle. Placed half of the stitches on a spare cable from my interchangeable set and proceeded to work flat stockinette for seven inches. Moved my needles over to the stitches held at cast on and repeated flat stockinette for another seven inches.
I used my cable connectors to join my two original cables and started knitting in the round. Knit and knit and knit, I did. It seemed to go on forever, but 12″ later I got to start ribbing. 2.5″ of 1×1 ribbing later, I did a stretchy bind off and wove in ends. Done!
It has been deemed the blanket!shrug because while it’s definitely a shrug, it is very much blanket-like. Tosh MCN is so incredibly soft it’s like getting a yarny hug. The color is a beautiful deep blue. It’s long enough that the back cups my butt slightly. I just love this FO so much!
